About The Mace Reports

The Mace Reports is a digital archive and real-time documentation platform created by the Institute for Historical Studies, Biographical Research, Documentation and Legacy (IHS-BiRD & L) to strengthen transparency, accountability, and historical preservation in Nigeria's legislative landscape.

What We Do

The platform provides a structured space where legislative aides submit verified reports on the daily activities of their principals across all tiers of government — the Senate, House of Representatives, State Houses of Assembly, and Local Government Councils. Through these firsthand submissions, The Mace Reports captures the work, performance, and public service engagements of elected legislators as they happen, ensuring their actions are recorded, preserved, and accessible for future reference.

Our Purpose

  • Document legislators’ activities in a structured, searchable, permanent archive.
  • Improve public understanding of what lawmakers do in plenary debates, committee work, oversight visits, constituency interventions, motions, bills, and engagements.
  • Promote transparency and accountability by making lawmakers’ actions visible, traceable, and verifiable.
  • Preserve legislative history for researchers, journalists, students, and future generations.
  • Provide an institutional record that supports and strengthens Nigeria’s democratic development.

How It Works

  1. Legislative aides submit structured reports detailing their principal’s activities.
  2. Editors review submissions for clarity, structure, and alignment with editorial standards.
  3. Copy editors refine language to ensure a professional, consistent publication style.
  4. The Managing Editor conducts final review and approves reports for publication.
  5. Published entries are automatically archived with metadata for long-term preservation.

This workflow ensures editorial quality while retaining the authenticity of firsthand reporting from the field.

What We Cover

Each report is categorized to reflect the core responsibilities and actions of legislators:

Bill, Motion, Petition, Plenary, Oversight, Constituency Project, Engagement, Announcement, Committee Work, Public Statement, Tributes, Report

These categories help contributors and readers easily track a legislator’s work across lawmaking, debate, oversight, representation, and community service.

Why The Mace Reports Matters

Legislators’ activities across Nigeria are often underreported, inconsistently captured, or not preserved. Over time, important information becomes lost, misrepresented, or inaccessible to the public. The Mace Reports provides a reliable, permanent solution by:

  • Creating a trusted digital record of each legislator’s work.
  • Giving visibility to parliamentary actions that shape governance and public policy.
  • Preserving today’s legislative activities for tomorrow’s historians.
  • Strengthening democratic accountability through open, accessible documentation.

Our Commitment

Guided by IHS-BiRD & L’s values of truth, inclusivity, preservation, and technological innovation, The Mace Reports is committed to:

  • Upholding editorial integrity and factual accuracy.
  • Ensuring digital preservation of legislators’ public records.
  • Providing a transparent, non-partisan documentation platform.
  • Preserving Nigeria’s legislative history from Nigerian perspectives.
